The legislature recently passed a law that allows modification or termination of alimony in the event that the recipient of the alimony is cohabitating with a significant other. This was done to address the situation that could arise where a recipient avoids marriage to ensure the continuation of alimony payments even though for all intents and purposes they are living as a married person and financially committed to another person. There are very specific factors set out in the statute that must be met to modify or terminate under this law.
